The Insurance Institute of Limerick and the College Players Theatre Company is delighted to invite members to a night at the theatre for a showing of Translations written by Irish playwright, Brian Friel, at The Lime Tree Theatre on 13 November at 8:00 PM.
Translations is a three-act play that takes place in a hedge-school in Baile Beag County Donegal. The year is 1833.
Friel gives us an insight into a small community affected by an Imperial endeavour to replace local indigenous place names with an English translation. In doing so, a significant part of our Irish heritage becomes lost forever.
While dealing with the complexities of interpretation and language, we are privy to scenes of great hilarity but also glimpse the harsh reality of what lies ahead for a community at the crossroads of change.
Translations is considered to be Friel’s best dramatic work.
Tickets are only €15 per person (Special Group Rate)
